To differentiate our product range designed for use in contact with food, skin, and other "non-medical" applications, we are introducing the brand name ALPHAKLEEN for PVC compounds formulated with ingredients sanctioned by the US FDA in Title 21 CFR. Formerly under the brand name SYLVIN, these materials are created for products such as beverage tubing, food-contact conveyor belts, food processing hose and connections, hearing-aid parts, valves, seals, and many other applications that require a PVC compound with FDA-sanctioned ingredients.
The ALPHAKLEEN PVC compound series has a wide range of hardness from 45A to 95A. Compounds are designed for either molding or extrusion processes. Many compounds have a clear base, and can be easily colored as necessary. Options include matte finish, non-reportable phthalates, and low temperature flexibility.
Why are we making the change?
Recently, we announced the commercial name change of Sylvin Technologies to Alphagary. As we embrace the collective product offering of the global Alphagary business, we see the need to differentiate between brand names for compounds with food contact ingredients vs. compounds with general purpose ingredients. Moving forward, here is our goal:
Â
The brand name SYLVINÂ = PVC compounds with general purpose ingredients for applications in automotive, building, general purpose consumer goods, industry, and wire & cable products
Â
The brand name ALPHAKLEENÂ = PVC compounds with ingredients sanctioned by the US FDA in Title 21 CFR designed for food-contact (such as beverage tubing).Â
Â
 Â
New Product Designations once the change takes place
Following is an example of the current and new designations, once the change is made:
Â
Current Designation                                                       New Designation
SYLVIN 2990-70 Clear-O15Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â ALPHAKLEEN 2990-70 Clear-O15
Â
Please note:Â Except for a change in the brand name, the rest of the material designation, as well as the ingredients, formulations, and our manufacturing processes are unchanged.
Â
The ALPHAMED brand remains for PVC compounds intended for medical device applications
Our well-established brand name ALPHAMED remains unchanged. These PVC compounds are also formulated with ingredients sanctioned by the US FDA in Title 21 CFR, and are intended for medical device applications such as oxygen tubing, blood bags, oxygen masks, drip chambers, connectors, and a vast array of other medical device applications. Many compounds have been tested to Class VI Biocompatibility standards and are formulated to withstand discoloration by tough sterilization methods such as gamma radiation.
