Advanced flame retardant compounds for wire and cable jacket and insulation applications.

For wire and cable applications, our GW series of flame-retardant PVC compounds delivers the high performance and regulatory compliance that today's demanding electrical infrastructure requires.  Materials are formulated to meet rigorous fire safety and performance standards, making them suitable for diverse applications including communications, control, signal, and coaxial cables.

Since testing is conducted on the cable, not the compound, material selection is dependent on the entire cable design.

Flame-Retardant, and Versatile.

With flame-retardant properties, GW series compounds promote safety in wire and cable applications.  They meet flame test requirements up to UL 1666 riser, ensuring that they can withstand and limit the spread of fire in riser-rated cable installations.  This feature is key in reducing the risk of fire propagation in buildings and other structures, protecting lives and property in residential, commercial and industrial settings.

The GW series is suitable for a variety of cable types, including copper and fiber optic cables. The range of materials features both semi-rigid and flexible options and is adaptable to various installation requirements.  The versatility of the GW series of PVC compounds allows it to be used in various applications, from communication cables to control and signal cables, offering a high-quality solution for manufacturers and installers who need a single compound that can meet diverse needs.

Benefits of the GW series

Compliance with Fire Safety Standards

Further optimizing safety across residential and commercial applications, grades in the GW series are formulated to meet the strict fire testing requirements dictated by the National Electrical Code (NEC) NFPA 70, including:

  • UL 1581 for wire and cable construction and performance standards.

  • UL 1685 / FT4 for vertical-tray fire-propagation and smoke-release testing.

  • UL 1666 riser standards for flame propagation resistance in vertical installations, minimizing fire spread risk in buildings.

Additionally, various GW compounds are recognized by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) under category QMTT2, recognizing specific safety and performance criteria is met. Certain grades have undergone rigorous testing to assess their suitability for electrical applications, resistance to sunlight and long-term insulation resistance in water, oil and gasoline in order to obtain QMTT2 recognition.

High Performance

GW series compounds have been formulated for operating temperature performance up to 105°C, ensuring reliable operation in environments with varying temperature conditions. They also feature Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) values ranging from 25 to 50 percent, indicating excellent flame-retardant properties in applications where fire safety is a priority.

Additional features include:

  • Grades for copper and fiber optic cables

  • Temp ratings from 60 to 105°C

  • Wet electrical insulation: 90°C

  • Oil resistance I and II available

  • REACH, RoHS and Prop 65 compliant grades
