Note:  since testing is conducted on the cable, not the compound, material selection is dependent on the entire cable design.

Today’s European fire safety standards are becoming even more rigorous, especially for data and power cables installed in complex environments such as hospitals, airports, and high-rise buildings. Data center and large workstation cables of these networked spaces must achieve the B2 classification of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) euro-classification.

Newly developed MEGOLON® low smoke, halogen-free sheathing compounds have been used in cable designs that successfully achieve the CPR cable test classification B2ca without negatively impacting the expected signal capabilities of the cable. These new compounds provide cable designers with the ability to achieve the rigorous B2ca classification while retaining the same cable design and transmission capabilities.

  • Suitable for data cables (fiber optic and copper) and electrical cables including power, control, coaxial, and radio frequency

  • Can achieve d0 (droplet rating) – key performance in locations such as tunnels and data centers

  • Engineered for fast extrusion in low wall thickness jackets

  • Grades designed for cables needing to achieve the various reaction to fire classifications including B2

  • MEGOLON grades are recognized by UL for halogen-free status AATJ2

As cable standards become more demanding, the focus on developing high-performance materials for CPR-rated cables remains a priority. By working closely with customers, Alphagary gains a deep understanding of industry challenges and delivers tailored solutions to meet specific needs. When existing compounds do not fully align with requirements, new formulations are developed to ensure compliance and performance. As global engineers continue to push for materials that meet evolving application and safety standards, we remain committed to providing innovative solutions that keep our customers ahead of the curve.
