SYLVIN flexible PVC compound are available as custom formulations or proven off-the-shelf grades.

SYLVIN PVC compounds are flexible vinyl materials for extrusion and injection molding applications across consumer goods, building and construction, automotive and industrial markets.

Choose from established grades for common application needs or work with our team to tailor a formulation around specific performance, processing and color requirements.

Compounds are available from 45 Shore A up to approximately 95 Shore A for semi-rigid applications, in clear or natural base, with performance additives and custom colors available across much of the range.

SYLVIN is a familiar name, now part of Alphagary.

The SYLVIN name comes from Sylvin Technologies, a flexible PVC compounder acquired by Mexichem, now Orbia, and integrated into Alphagary.

Today, the name SYLVIN continues as the brand name for the flexible PVC compounds developed through that legacy. Customers can expect the same proven formulations, responsive service and application support, with the added strength of Alphagary’s global materials portfolio.

SYLVIN vinyl compounds offer countless possibilities.

SYLVIN compounds span a broad formulation window, with properties tailored to application-specific performance, processing and appearance requirements.

Base hardness ranges from 45 Shore A up to approximately 95 Shore A, covering flexible to semi-rigid grades, with clear and natural base resins available across much of the range.

Performance additives can be incorporated into base formulations to support requirements such as:

  • Flame resistance available across multiple UL-recognized grades

  • Low-temperature flexibility for applications requiring performance in cold temperatures

  • UV resistance for outdoor or sun-exposed applications

  • Chemical resistance tailored to specific exposure environments

  • Fungus resistance for humid or biological exposure conditions

  • Antistatic additives for controlled static dissipation requirements

  • Pre-colored and custom colors, with clear or opaque base materials available to support bright, application-specific color options

As with any flexible PVC formulation, adjusting one property influences the others. SYLVIN compounds are developed to balance these trade-offs, maintaining mechanical integrity, processability and durability while meeting the target performance criteria.

Processing versatility for extrusion and injection molding applications.

SYLVIN compounds are available for extrusion, injection molding or both. All grades are formulated to process consistently on conventional equipment without requiring process modifications lot to lot.

  • Extrusion — profiles, tubing, hose, wire insulation and jacketing including automotive wiring, flexible cord

  • Injection molding — complex geometries, tight tolerances, high-volume components

  • Dual-process grades — formulated to run on either platform

Certain SYLVIN flexible PVC compounds carry UL recognition

Select SYLVIN grades carry UL component recognition.

  • UL QMFZ2/8 with flammability ratings V0, V1, V2, or HB

  • UL QMTT2 – 105C THHW type wire, sunlight resistant, VW-1

  • UL QMTT2.E69948 listed for all colors

  • UL approval for TW, THW, THHW and 720-hour sunlight resistance

SYLVIN compounds provide application versatility across products and markets.

  • Clear and opaque profiles, hose and tubing

  • Bumpers, suction cups, grips and overmolds

  • Automotive seals, grommets and trim components.  SAE J1127/1128 for 105C rated trailer cable and battery cable applications.

  • Building and construction profiles, weatherstripping and gaskets

  • Injection molded industrial and consumer components

  • Wire insulation, including speaker wire, booster cable and lamp cord (60°C rated)

  • Specialty molded parts with antistatic or low-outgassing requirements

Compounds developed with a lower carbon footprint are also available for applications where sustainability goals are part of the material selection process. These options are designed to help manufacturers evaluate performance, processing and environmental impact together. Food-contact formulations formerly branded as SYLVIN -  now branded as ALPHAKLEEN

PVC compounds formulated with FDA-sanctioned ingredients for food-contact applications, such as beverage tubing, are now offered under the ALPHAKLEEN brand name.

This change helps distinguish food-contact materials from general-purpose SYLVIN PVC compounds, while maintaining the same established formulations, ingredients and manufacturing processes customers already know.
